Najibabad Embroidery and Kalamkari Collection

Nestling below the Uttarakhand hills, near the Ganges, is the township of Najibabad, legendary for its soldiers turned rafugars. Even though they learnt rafugari from the Kashmiris, today they are indispensable to the restoration of antique kani shawls. To augment their meagre incomes, they turned to embroidering and painting Mughal patterns of the most exquisite dorukha shawls which are with collectors or in museums. Being masters of the needle, they have excelled at recreating the most delicate designs. The collection includes some of these masterpieces.
